The Jochenstein power plant generates 850 million kWh of electricity annually from water energy. To generate the same amount of electricity in a thermal power plant, 190,000 tons of oil or 280,000 tons of coal would have to be burned, polluting our air with 700,000 tons of carbon dioxide (greenhouse gas CO2).

The Danube is cleaned of around 2,000 tons of debris and floating objects every year by the rake cleaning system at the turbine inlets. The rake waste is sorted and the recovered recyclable materials are put to use.

The operating buildings and the Haus am Strom are heated with waste heat from the turbine and generator cooling systems.
